FAQ & Info
AYC divisions are age based. Placement of FYFC Cheerleaders on a roster is based on their age as of July 31 of the current year. Teams may be categorized as small v. large based on the number of cheerleaders per squad, as well as, level 1, 2, 3 or 4 depending on the teams skill ability. Squads also declare whether they are Non-Advancing or Advancing. Below is a brief description of each declaration.
Exhibition: for the youngest of our cheerleaders on our 6U squads, exhibition is a great place for the beginner level cheerleaders to start. They will get their time to shine performing at local competitions but will not be judged. Exhibition level there is no placement at competition, however the young cheerleaders will get to see how it feels to take the mat in front of a crowd. Practices for 6u after the month of August are limited to 2x a week.
Non-advancing: for the younger cheerleaders on our 8U squads, non-advancing provides the opportunity for the team to perform at a competition, it also provides the opportunity for the cheerleaders to experience the competitive side of cheerleading without the pressure of advancing. Non-advancing teams may be placed at invitational or local competition events but do not advance to States/regionals. Practices after August are limited to 2x a week, however may increase when needed leading up to a competition at the discretion of the Head Coach.
Advancing:on our 10U/12U/14U squads advancing provides the opportunity for the team’s routine to be judged, the squad to be placed and to advance. Advancing teams compete at invitational and Local competitions with the goal of placing in order to advance to State, Regional, and National Championship competitions. Advancing teams will practice 3x a week after August beginning in September and also may increase when needed leading up to a competition at the discretion of the Head Coach.
Once our registration is complete, cheerleaders will be assigned to a squad. Each cheerleader will be notified of their team placement before our season starts. The brackets below show a range of ages per division. Please contact Molly with any questions regarding team placement.

COACHING CHEERLEADING
The primary function of a FYFC Coach is making sure kids have fun while they learn foundational life skills, athletic fundamentals and core values. Coaches must effectively manage team communications with players and their families and the Cheerleading Director.
